Sexual assault programs

A response team, counseling, therapy and legal help — including someone to go with you to a forensic medical exam.

Understanding it

Sexual assault is unwanted sexual contact committed by one person on another. It can include groping, forcible kissing, and other behaviors up to and including rape. While a stranger can commit sexual assault and rape, approximately 90% of victims know the person who assaulted them. Incapacitating victims with drugs is a very common tactic used by abusers, and includes “roofies,” alcohol, and other drugs.

If you did not give your consent to sexual activity — whether or not you physically fought back or said “no” — the activity can be considered sexual assault. Sexual assault can occur within a relationship where you have had consensual sex before.
